It has taken me ages to get round to doing this look. Over on Liloo's lovely blog she is running a competition until Wednesday 16th Feb. You can see the full details here. It is to create a look inspired by Birds, Fruit, Flowers. Well I was stupid and read it as 'and' when actually it was 'or' and I could have done just one element, but hey-ho.

Boots Haul

Just realised that I haven't said Happy New Year yet, so Happy New Year everyone!!!

I got a £20 Boots giftcard for Xmas from my step-dad and I just couldn't decide what to spend it on. I knew I needed to replace my foundations (yes plural, I mix them)

So off I hopped, with an extra £10 in my purse from some jeans I returned to Next.

God I love that place. I spend aaaaages browsing, doing that irritating look at the same stand 3 times thing.

Then I toddled over to the left over Xmas gifts. Now the 3 for 2 doesn't run afterwards. Booo. Instead everything is half price. Whey!!!!

I had bought Fearne Cotton stuff before Xmas (and subsequently returned - see below post) so I went to see what was available. All the nail varnish kits had gone, but there were lots of the Lip gloss sets. I picked up and 8pc 'Gloss It Over' set for £5. There is a nice selection of brown, red and pinks in there.

I also got a No7 gift set - now only £7.50! You get 3 trio shadow palettes with different designs and themes (Cappucino, Twilight and By The Sea), two Amazing Eye Pencils in Brown and Black and an Intense Volume Mascara in Black. Cannot wait to try these bad boys out!!

I also picked up a Bourjois blush in Rose - very lovely colour, very pink and shimmery with a coral undertone. I'd do a swatch but it'd be pointless. I use my phone to take pics and it does not give justice to any colour :(

I'd heard great things about the Collection 200 Lasting Perfection Concealer, so I picked one up in tone 2 Light. Now it says it lasts up to 16hrs and is transfer resistant. Well I must have got the duff one. Does not last, does transfer. I wore it for work and by my break I was reapplying, and it had caked, even though it was applied very lightly. I'll give it another few chances, but so far I'm not dumbstruck by it.

Lastly, my foundations. The best combo I have tried. Revlon ColorStay in 150 Buff (I am currently cursing looking at the bottle realising I've picked up Normal/Dry rather than combination, grr) and Bourjois Healthy Mix in 51. The longevity of CS with the freshness and glow of HM is heavenly on my skin. And that bloomin lasts!!

Anywho, those of you on the ball probably worked out this all cost more than £30. I only went over by £9. Whoop!! I could have bought so much more!!

Well mini shopping trip haul thing done :)

Boots Voucher is back!!!

Oh yes, by far one of the best high street promotions is back:

The freebie Boots £5 No7 and Ruby&Millie voucher (and £5 eye test)

Now, if you live in a cave and don't know why these are so great then Jayne will tell you. You get it free when you buy something in Boots. Anything, and as far as I'm aware there is no minimum spend, you just get it at the till with whatever you've bought.

You then have £5 to spend on No7 and Ruby&Millie!!

Best thing, use it before the expiry date - these are 30th Jan - and you'll get yourself another.

AND!!

At the moment there is 3 for 2 on No7 stuff... so get something for free and £5 off. Wow.

3 for 2 on selected No7

Enjoy!!

FOTD: 17 Glam Rock Palette

It's Christmas Eve, I've been on the vino, so not many words (shocker, I know) I'm gonna leave it to the pictures. Ish.

I bought Boots 17 Wild Curls in Wildest Black a few weeks ago when they had a promo that if you spend a measly £6 then you got a FREE 6 shade Glam Rock Palette!! The mascara was £6.99 itself so one word springs to mind - BARGAIN.

It comes in a nice black and purple card box, then a sleek plastic palette of the same design. Inside there are 3 shimmers, 1 glitter and 2 matte shades (click for larger image):

1. Top left (TL) is a pearly white shimmer (inner corner + brow highlight), 2. TR silver shimmer (blended out crease), 3. ML glitter pewter (packed in middle of lid), 4. MR bronze shimmer (all over lid, lower lashline), 5. BL matte purple/lilac (crease), 6. BR matte black (outer corner). Yup, I used all them bad boys.

Complete look:

Smile..? No? Ok.

Products used:
Eyeko Glow Cream
(Mixed) Revlon Color Stay 'Buff' and Bourjois Healthy Mix 52
Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Concealer 'Rose Beige'
Sleek 'One' Finishing Powder

Diary of a Spendaholic: Radio Appearance

Hello all!

So earlier on I said that I had been contacted by BBC Radio Wiltshire to talk about my spending and debt etc. Now at the beginning of the month, I had a researched call me up and ask lots of questions and I got the feeling afterward that perhaps my story wasn't what they were after. Then there was nothing.

Out of the blue yesterday, the lovely Annie Weston (who originally contacted me on Facebook) called me and asked me some more questions and I told her all about my two day shopping spree. She seemed to think that this was great (not in a bad way) and asked if I'd be willing to speak on the breakfast show with Matthew Smith this morning.. I said HELL YEAH! Well I think I said sure but hell yeah sounds much more dramatic.

Anywho, at 0745hrs this morning they called me up and I waited patiently on the line through a story about someone from Bath giving turkeys to the Army or something, and I was up!!

You can listen to my interview here. If you fast forward to 1:22:45 it's my introduction.

Now a few hours later Ben, the shows producer, called me back up to confirm that they want me to reappear - on the phone of course - on 4th January 2011 @ 0815hrs (tbc) to have another chat with how I dealt with the New Years sales and my plans for 2011!!!

BE QUICK TO LISTEN - I'M NOT SURE HOW LONG IT WILL REMAIN ON THE IPLAYER, IT SEEMS TO ONLY BE 24HR BUT AS IT'S XMAS NOT SURE IF IT WILL BE ANY LONGER...

Enjoy - I'd love to know what you think so leave a comment for me :)

Diary Of A Spendaholic: A Step In the Right Direction

Dyed & Tested: John Frieda Precision Foam Dye

I have been a box dye junkie for years. Never happy with my natural colour I have done all sorts from red, to ginger, to black and have settled back into mid-tone browns. For the past year I have used Clairol Perfect 10 and thought I could get no better dye.

Then my fave high-street hair brand John Frieda brought out something different. Foam. Yes that's right, foam.

Beautifully modelled by Molly (she likes to be involved) here is the box I got:
5N Medium Natural Brown, and it's a permanent colour:

The box itself isn't very big, but still has everything you need in it. Including the mixing solution bottle - don't chuck this around, it's what makes the foam so is super sensitive, then the dye to add, a bottle of conditioner with several applications, the dispenser, instruction leaflet and a stylish pair of lack latex gloves.

Now normally, my sister will dye my hair. But that's when using traditional creme dyes. I went all adventurous and decided to try this out myself. Armed with a dodgy old t-shirt and my forehead smeared with Vaseline, I got the solution prepared. I mixed it all together by gently tipping upside down five times and I was set. Now I was a little concerned there wouldn't be enough as the total solution only fills a third of the bottle. Then I thought well where's this foam eh?

Bring on the dispenser. The science behind creating the foam is when you squeeze the bottle and foam is dispensed, rather than being in the bottle. Then you realise there is a mammoth amount of dye in that bottle. You squeeze out a tennis ball sized amount into your hand and apply in sections. Then you get it all over your head like you used to with bubbles in the bath :)

After 10 mins or so you've built up enough in your hair it all just sits on top of your head like this. No need to worry about clips and drips with this stuff, it just stays put. Once you're done the only downside is the 20minute developing time, so I decided to paint my stubby nails.

At first, I felt my head warming and when coupled with the bubbles popping it's an odd sensation! this stops after a few minutes and you don't even notice you have it on your head.

The part of all this I was most impressed with, was the rinsing. Normally you can spend up to five minutes washing out a creme dye but this stuff was gone in just over a minute, water running clear no word of a lie. Also, I find my hair gets quite dried out by creme's and I can't wait to get the conditioner on it, but my hair already felt like it was conditioned, it was just it's normal softness! This meant I only put on a 'normal' amount of conditioner afterward.

Here are the results:

My hair before and afterwards.

Always comes out darker than on the box, and it is getting lighter with washing since; saying that I didn't get tonnes more dye coming out on subsequent washes, bargain!

Of course Moll was always on hand in case of any disasters :) Final observation was that all the bits from the box actually went back into the box neatly and you could close it back up again! Been a while since I could do that!

John Frieda Precision Foam comes in 20 different shades which you can see here. It's available at all good Supermarkets and Drugstores and as it's new it's on offer it quite a few places at the moment so price varies £4-£8 so have a good look around first!

Overall rating: wow/10

NB: I was not asked to write this review and purchased the product with my own money. All opinions are honest and my own and I am not affiliated with John Frieda in anyway. Other than being a dye-hard fan (ha, dye, get it?!)
